Inter Milan showcased their overwhelming power by defeating Como 4-0 at Giuseppe Meazza in the 14th round of Serie A, temporarily claiming the top spot in the standings.
The match served as a platform for Lautaro Martinez to continue his impact by scoring the opening goal and reaching the milestone of 150 goal involvements for Inter in Serie A, a testament to the Argentine striker’s emblematic role in the Nerazzurri’s resurgence to the top.
On the other hand, Como’s unbeaten run since August under the promising guidance of coach Cesc Fabregas was swiftly brought to an end.
Inter Milan crushed Como 4-0 in the 14th round of Serie A
Inter Milan started at a high pace with a clear attacking intention. From the very first second, Lautaro had a shot that went over the crossbar, serving as an early warning for the visiting defense. That pressure was quickly converted into a goal in the 11th minute.
New signing Luis Henrique made a powerful run down the right and delivered a delicate cut-back for Lautaro to finish low and accurately, opening the scoring. That goal not only gave the lead but also marked the captain’s 150th combined goal and assist for Inter in Italy’s top division.
Fabregas’s tactics became more difficult when Alvaro Morata had to leave the pitch in the 32nd minute due to a groin injury. Without their main striker, Como tried to maintain possession but were completely frustrated by Inter’s disciplined defensive setup. The first half ended 1-0.
In the second half, Como pushed forward to try to find hope. However, Inter responded with cold efficiency. In the 59th minute, Dimarco delivered a corner kick perfectly for Marcus Thuram to make a close-range tap-in, increasing the lead to 2-0.
From there, the game opened up entirely in Inter’s favor. More spaces appeared, and the home team punished their opponents with two additional goals: Hakan Calhanoglu scored in the 80th minute, followed by Carlos Augusto sealing the 4-0 victory in the 86th minute.
This victory brought Inter’s total to 30 points, moving them to the top of the table in a scenario where the Scudetto contenders were previously separated by just one point, putting significant pressure on Napoli, AC Milan (both on 28 points), and other direct rivals. It also strongly confirmed that Inter is prepared to break away in this season’s title race.
Also in the 14th round of Serie A, Verona earned their first win of the season by beating Atalanta 3-1, reaching 9 points and temporarily sitting second-last in the standings. Meanwhile, Fiorentina lost 1-2 to Sassuolo, remaining at the bottom after 14 matches without a win.
