Liverpool’s disappointing journey continues in the 2025/26 Premier League, as they squandered a winning position in the final minutes and were held to a 3-3 draw by Leeds United at Elland Road in a dramatic match that extended to the 90+11th minute. This marked the eighth game this season without a win for The Kop, leaving them stuck in 8th place, just two points behind the top four.

Coach Arne Slot’s squad started strongly and dominated the first half. Within the first three minutes of the second half, Hugo Ekitike shone brightly with a double strike at the 48th and 51st minutes, giving Liverpool a 2-0 advantage.

After being pressed, Leeds fought back fiercely. In the 73rd minute, Dominic Calvert-Lewin reduced the deficit to 1-2 from a penalty after VAR confirmed a foul in the box. Just two minutes later, Anton Stach made a precise run and finish to equalize 2-2, igniting the passionate atmosphere at Elland Road.

In the 80th minute, Dominik Szoboszlai scored a beautiful goal to put Liverpool ahead 3-2 following a well-coordinated play. However, like in many previous matches, The Kop’s defense remained a critical weakness.

Despite Leeds making continuous substitutions to increase pressure, nobody expected Liverpool to collapse in stoppage time. At 90+6 minutes, Ao Tanaka seized a rebound inside the box and fired a low shot into the left corner, leveling the score at 3-3 amid the home fans’ jubilation. The match ended with numerous yellow cards, heated disputes, and great disappointment for the visitors. Although Liverpool dominated possession and created many chances, they failed to hold their lead due to defensive lapses, especially during late set-piece situations.
