Real Madrid endured a disastrous match, receiving three red cards, losing 0-2 to Celta Vigo, and descending into chaos just before their crucial Champions League clash.
Real Madrid has just experienced one of the most chaotic matches of the season when they were defeated 0-2 by Celta Vigo at the Bernabeu, ending the 90 minutes with three red cards handed to Fran Garcia, Alvaro Carreras, and even Endrick—who hadn't yet entered the field. This was a severe blow to Xabi Alonso’s team right before their match against Manchester City in the Champions League.
The control of the game slipped from Real early on. Eder Militao left the pitch due to injury in the first half, forcing Antonio Rüdiger to come on as a substitute, despite Alonso’s wish to rest the German defender for the Champions League. Real pushed forward but were repeatedly denied by goalkeeper Ionut Radu, who blocked clear chances from Bellingham, Arda Guler, and Vinicius.
Celta Vigo stuck to a low defensive block, patiently waiting to counterattack. In the 57th minute, Bryan Zaragoza crossed for Williot Swedberg to volley beautifully and score the opening goal. Immediately after, Real pushed higher to equalize but gradually lost composure, leading to a series of incidents that completely unraveled their performance.
In the 70th minute, Fran Garcia was shown two yellow cards within a minute for an unnecessary challenge on Swedberg, reducing Real to 10 men. As the team struggled to maintain control, Carreras was also sent off in stoppage time for protesting against referee Alejandro Quintero. The final minutes turned into tense disputes off the pitch.
The chaos peaked when Endrick—the player who had not played a single minute all match—was given a direct red card in the 90+2 minute. The 18-year-old star lost his temper at the assistant referee following Carreras’ dismissal, forcing the main referee to come over and issue the red card. This was Real Madrid’s third red card of the match.
This incident further highlights Endrick’s difficult situation. The young Brazilian star has been on the bench for 16 consecutive games and played only 12 minutes since returning from injury. Although he once scored a brace to help Real beat Celta 5-2 in the Copa del Rey earlier this year, he is currently excluded from Alonso’s plans and is rumored to have agreed to join Lyon on loan.
This defeat means Real Madrid has won only one of their last five La Liga matches and dropped to fourth place, four points behind Barcelona. While Celta savored a rare victory at the Bernabeu, Real faces multiple suspensions, declining form, and shaken morale just before a fierce battle with Manchester City.
Three red cards in one night turn a 0-2 loss into a serious warning: Real Madrid not only lost a match but also sacrificed the stability that has been the foundation of their success.
