On December 14th Beijing time, the WTT Hong Kong Finals wrapped up. The women’s singles final featured an all-Chinese clash where Wang Manyu defeated Kuai Man 4-2 to secure her second consecutive title. Meanwhile, in the men’s singles final, Japan’s star Tomokazu Harimoto maintained the lead to beat Moregard 4-2. Thus, the three titles were divided among China, Japan, and South Korea, resulting in four winners and six losers. Let’s review them!

The four winners are women’s singles champion Wang Manyu, men’s singles champion Tomokazu Harimoto, and the mixed doubles champions Lin Jong-hun and Shin Yu-bin.
Wang Manyu entered as the defending women’s singles champion, maintaining a strong and consistent form throughout, ultimately defeating teammate Kuai Man in the final to claim her second consecutive title. Tomokazu Harimoto showed exceptional skill and luck; as Japan’s sole contender, he fought a tough seven-game match to edge out Lin Shidong 4-3 and advance to the final. Facing Olympic silver medalist Moregard, Harimoto found hope after Wang Chuqin withdrew. Despite twice losing his lead to Moregard, Harimoto saved multiple match points in the fifth game and then surged ahead to stun Moregard 4-2 and win the title. The Korean mixed doubles pair Lin Jong-hun and Shin Yu-bin defeated the Chinese pairs including the combinations with Sun Yingsha and others, capturing this highly prestigious championship unexpectedly. Although Sun Yingsha’s injury may have affected her performance, the Korean duo played very strongly!
The six losers are Wang Chuqin, Sun Yingsha, Hugo Calderano, Moregard, and Lin Shidong.
Wang Chuqin and Sun Yingsha competed in both mixed doubles and singles but lost all their matches, seemingly suffering setbacks. Sun Yingsha lost two titles due to injury, and Wang Chuqin was no better, withdrawing from the men’s singles semifinal and handing the championship to foreign players. Lin Shidong, ranked world number two, was once again defeated by Tomokazu Harimoto, showing a psychological disadvantage despite a close 3-4 scoreline. Moregard missed a golden chance to claim the title in a final without any Chinese players, which was truly regrettable. Since winning the Macau World Cup, Hugo has not secured another singles title and was eliminated early in this finals event!
