Coach Shin Tae-yong admits he will not be leading the Indonesia national team

Coach Shin Tae-yong has never been approached by PSSI about resuming his role as the head coach of Indonesia's national team.

The head coach position of the Indonesia national team is currently vacant. The last person to hold this role was Patrick Kluivert. The Football Association of Indonesia (PSSI) and coach Patrick Kluivert officially ended their cooperation in October this year, shortly after the Indonesia national team failed in the fourth round of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.

The Football Association of Indonesia (PSSI) is still searching for a new head coach. However, one name has been mentioned: Shin Tae-yong. It must be acknowledged that many Indonesians hope for his return to lead the national team.

Shin Tae-yong has also spoken about the possibility of returning to coach the Indonesia national team. According to Shin, there has been no communication with PSSI regarding this matter. "I have had absolutely no contact with PSSI," Shin Tae-yong stated during an interview at Soekarno-Hatta Airport, Tangerang.

Shin Tae-yong frequently returns to Indonesia. During his time in the country, he admits he always enjoys himself. He feels at home there. Shin Tae-yong believes that Indonesian fans will never forget what he has done for the Garuda team in the past.

"Actually, I feel very happy with this precious feeling, and I think the fans have not forgotten me, so I am deeply grateful. The fans still remember me and I am very thankful," he continued.

Currently, Shin Tae-yong is not coaching any team. After being dismissed from his role as head coach of the Indonesia national team in January 2025, Shin briefly returned to South Korea to manage Ulsan HD.

However, Shin Tae-yong’s tenure at Ulsan HD was rather short-lived. Less than two months after being appointed head coach, Shin was dismissed on October 9, 2025.

Shin Tae-yong’s firing from Ulsan HD at that time was quite shocking, amid rumors of discord in the locker room, especially regarding his relationship with the players.
