OFFICIAL: Vietnam inaugurates 'super' stadium worth over 500 billion VND

On the morning of December 19, 2025, Vietnamese football officially reached a significant milestone in infrastructure with the opening of the Thai Nguyen provincial stadium, a project invested with more than 500 billion VND.

The inauguration ceremony of the Thai Nguyen provincial stadium was held in a solemn atmosphere, part of a series of simultaneous groundbreaking and opening events for key projects nationwide to celebrate the 14th National Congress of the Communist Party. The stadium was built on a 15.47-hectare area, within the planning of the provincial sports complex.

The project officially commenced on October 1, 2022, aiming to create a modern sports complex that meets standards for hosting professional domestic and international football matches. The facility includes one international-standard football field, surrounded by an 8-lane circular track and a 10-lane straight track, serving both football and athletics.

A notable highlight of this stadium is its Zeon Zoysia grass surface, a premium natural turf used in many international-standard stadiums. This grass type has been certified by ITGAP, ensuring quality for competition, durability, and recovery capability, meeting the requirements of professional tournaments. Additionally, the entire electrical system, lighting, water supply and drainage, wastewater treatment, internal traffic, and transformer station have been synchronously invested.

With a capacity of 22,000 seats, the Thai Nguyen stadium is nearly equal in size to Hang Day Stadium (22,500 seats) and surpasses Viet Tri Stadium (around 20,000 seats). The total investment of the project is 535 billion VND, funded by central government support, land use fees, and other legal sources. Upon completion, it is recognized as the largest stadium in the Northern midland and mountainous region, serving as a central venue for large-scale sports, cultural, and tourism activities.

Immediately following the inauguration, Thai Nguyen stadium will face its first "test" as it is selected as the venue for the 2025 Four Kings Football Tournament – Thai Nguyen, held from December 21 to 27, 2025. The tournament gathers four well-known Vietnamese football clubs: Hanoi FC, Hoang Anh Gia Lai, Viettel Army, and PVF Public Security, promising high-quality matches for fans.

The official operation of this over 500 billion VND stadium not only marks an infrastructural achievement for sports but is also viewed as a strategic step in developing grassroots and professional football in the Northern region. This facility is expected to become a regular destination for major tournaments, international friendly matches, as well as national-scale sports and cultural events in the near future.
