Southeast Asian football fans are buzzing over Vietnam's world's largest stadium

Vietnam's official groundbreaking of the Trống Đồng Stadium, the largest stadium in the world, has quickly sparked intense debate and excitement among Southeast Asia's football fan community.

According to official information from Vingroup, the Trống Đồng Stadium will have a seating capacity of up to 135,000, located within the Olympic Sports City complex invested by Vingroup, with a total project cost reaching 925 trillion VND. Once completed, this facility will not only surpass famous stadiums worldwide but also officially become the largest stadium on the planet.

Right after the first perspective images of the Trống Đồng Stadium circulated, on the ASEAN FOOTBALL fanpage, many Southeast Asian supporters expressed their admiration openly. An Indonesian fan commented: “The design is absolutely stunning.”

Meanwhile, a Thai fan also shared enthusiasm: “The stadium is beautiful and uniquely impressive. Keep it up, Vietnam!”

Alongside admiration, some fans offered practical viewpoints. An Indonesian supporter shared experience from their own country: “The challenge is not in construction, but in maintaining long-term upkeep costs, especially for such a massive structure. Nonetheless, congratulations on this bold initiative.”

Another fan even compared the Trống Đồng Stadium to the largest stadiums currently worldwide: “If this becomes reality, it will surpass North Korea and Morocco in actual seating capacity.”

Notably, many Indonesian fans agree that this infrastructure development is fully worthy of what Vietnamese football has achieved over more than a decade. One opinion with many interactions stated: “Vietnamese football absolutely deserves a grand stadium that matches its accomplishments.”

According to plans, the Trống Đồng Stadium will be completed by August 2028, featuring the world's largest retractable roof system, advanced modular rolled turf technology, a state-of-the-art VAR center, and FIFA-standard training facilities. This project is considered capable of hosting top sporting events such as the ASIAD, Olympics, or even the World Cup in the future.
