Song Lam Nghe An meets PVF-CAND in the final of the National U19 Football Championship – Modern Cup 2025/26.
A convincing victory over The Cong Viettel I helped Song Lam Nghe An secure a spot in the final of the National U19 Football Championship – Modern Cup 2025/26, where their opponent will be PVF-CAND after the hosts won the penalty shootout against Hanoi.
After a goalless first half, Song Lam Nghe An continued with impressive attacks, and it was only a matter of time. In the 64th minute, from Anh Dung’s pass, Tan Minh executed a skillful chip shot from outside the box to open the scoring for Song Lam Nghe An.
This goal allowed Coach Nguyen Hong Viet’s team to play more strategically. The Nghe An side gradually dropped back to defend, while The Cong Viettel I had to push forward. In the 71st minute, Song Lam Nghe An launched a quick counterattack. After a save by The Cong Viettel I’s goalkeeper, Hoang Minh Hoi rushed in to tap the ball in close range, doubling the lead. In the remaining minutes, The Cong Viettel I’s efforts went unrewarded. Van Thai and his teammates missed chances to reduce the deficit and ultimately had to accept Song Lam Nghe An’s place in the final.
In the first semi-final at 5 PM, PVF-CAND narrowly defeated Hanoi in a tense penalty shootout 5-3, after the two teams ended 1-1 in regular time. The match was dramatic and emotional, fitting the nature of a top-level contest.
PVF-CAND took the lead in the 68th minute when Nguyen Trong Duc Vu (number 10) capitalized on an opportunity to score against Hanoi, putting the red-shirted team ahead. However, Hanoi did not give up easily. In the 88th minute, Dam Tien Phat (number 99) scored an equalizer, sending the game into a lottery of penalties.
From the penalty spot, PVF-CAND showed remarkable composure and confidence by converting all 5 attempts, while Hanoi failed to score any. Ultimately, PVF-CAND won 5-3 on penalties, concluding the match with a well-deserved and emotional victory. This result secured the host PVF-CAND’s place in the final against Song Lam Nghe An at 4 PM on January 27.
