Vietnamese overseas midfielder officially returns to the V-League

Vietnamese overseas midfielder Mạc Hồng Quân departs the First Division to make a comeback in the V-League by joining Becamex TP.HCM for the 2025–2026 season.

Vietnamese overseas midfielder Mạc Hồng Quân officially returns to the V-League after parting ways with Quảng Ninh Club to join Becamex TP.HCM, preparing for the second half of the 2025–2026 season. This is seen as a new turning point in the career of the 1992-born player following a brief period competing in the First Division.

According to sources, Mạc Hồng Quân ended his short-term contract with Quảng Ninh Club early in 2026. After nearly half a season playing in the lower division, he decided to move south to wear the Becamex TP.HCM jersey, marking his return to the V-League. Hồng Quân has now completed all registration procedures and is eligible to play as soon as the league resumes at the end of January.

Hồng Quân’s new team will face Hồng Lĩnh Hà Tĩnh on January 30 in round 12 of the 2025–2026 V-League. The coaching staff of Becamex TP.HCM hopes this experienced midfielder will quickly adapt and provide additional options in midfield during this crucial phase of the season.

Previously, the reunion between Mạc Hồng Quân and Quảng Ninh Club did not leave a strong impression. He appeared in only 5 out of 7 matches, mostly coming off the bench, without scoring or assisting. The team’s defensive counter-attacking style also limited Hồng Quân’s ability to fully showcase his skills.

Nevertheless, his time in the First Division did not significantly affect Hồng Quân’s professional value. Becamex TP.HCM believes his match experience and solid skills will help the team improve its current standing. After 11 rounds, coach Đặng Trần Chỉnh’s squad ranks 8th on the table and needs more stability in the fight to avoid relegation and move up to the mid-table group.

Mạc Hồng Quân is a familiar name to V-League fans, having been professionally trained in the Czech Republic and enjoying a highly successful period with Than Quảng Ninh in the past. At the national team level, he participated in the 2014 Asian Games, won a bronze medal at the 2015 SEA Games, and was called up to the Vietnamese national team in 2019. His return to the V-League this time is expected to help him continue to make an impact in the final stages of his career.
