Thailand's futsal team kicked off the 2026 Asian Championship by beating Lebanon, with a standout player who previously triumphed over Barcelona shining and putting early pressure on Vietnam's team.

Thailand's futsal squad had a strong start at the 2026 Asian Futsal Championship by overcoming Lebanon in their opening match, thereby quickly exerting pressure on Vietnam's futsal team in Group B. The match drew significant attention as both Thailand and Lebanon are direct rivals to the red-shirted team.

As the reigning Asian runner-up, Thailand was favored before kickoff. However, the game showed that Lebanon was not an easy opponent. The West Asian team began aggressively, organized a tight defense, and consistently challenged the “War Elephants”’ plays. Throughout the first half, despite holding more possession, Thailand failed to break through Lebanon’s defense.

In the second half, the momentum gradually shifted to the Southeast Asian side. After persistent pressure, Thailand finally opened the scoring through Worasak Srirangpirot. This goal relieved the blue-shirted team’s pressure and allowed them to play more confidently in the following minutes.

Minutes later, the match’s most significant moment came when Osamanmusa, the star known for his career highlight of beating Barcelona, struck a quick and precise shot to extend the lead to 2-0, confirming his leadership role in Thailand's attack.

With a comfortable lead, Thailand played more freely but squandered several good chances. Still, the 2-0 victory was enough to secure all three points on their debut and temporarily top Group B. Conversely, despite the loss, Lebanon showed they remain a tough opponent with a physically strong and disciplined style.

This result inadvertently increases the pressure on Vietnam’s futsal team, who will play later against Kuwait. Given their recent inconsistent form, especially after an unsuccessful SEA Games, coach Diego Giustozzi’s squad must achieve a positive result to avoid falling into a disadvantageous position in the race to advance.
