A rising star at Manchester United has unexpectedly suffered an injury and has been announced to be sidelined for about 10 weeks.
According to The Athletic, defender Patrick Dorgu of Manchester United is likely to be out for approximately 10 weeks due to a hamstring injury. The 21-year-old player was unable to complete the full match in the game against Arsenal last weekend and the coaching staff initially hoped it was just a cramp. However, subsequent tests confirmed that the 2004-born star suffered a serious hamstring issue, forcing him to be away from the pitch for about two months, causing a significant loss for Coach Michael Carrick.
Dorgu got injured in the second half while trying to sprint after a long pass. Unfortunately, before leaving the field, he had delivered a very impressive performance. Positioned on the left wing, the Danish international scored a beautiful volley from outside the box, playing a major role in helping the "Red Devils" secure a dramatic 3-2 victory at Arsenal’s Emirates Stadium.
Dorgu’s upcoming absence is something Carrick strongly wishes to avoid, especially as the player is in great form. With this injury, the 2004-born defender could miss up to eight upcoming matches for Manchester United, putting the English coach in a tough spot regarding squad rotation and lineup decisions.
Earlier, when asked about Dorgu’s condition, Coach Carrick stated: "He left the field showing signs that looked like a cramp, and we hoped it was nothing more serious. At this point, it’s still hard to make a final judgment, so we need to wait and see. Hopefully, the situation isn’t too bad."
In the coming period, the Old Trafford team will face tough opponents like Aston Villa, Newcastle, and Tottenham. The Danish player may aim to return in the derby against Leeds on April 11, before joining his teammates for the away match at Chelsea in the following round.
This season, Dorgu has appeared in 22 Premier League matches, scoring 3 goals and providing 3 assists. Previously, former coach Ruben Amorim had deployed him on the wing in the Boxing Day match against Newcastle, and since then, Dorgu has performed impressively in a more advanced role. Manchester United hopes he can regain top fitness for the final stretch of the race to secure a Champions League spot.
