Southeast Asian fans unanimously send their congratulations to Vietnam’s futsal team for their 5-4 victory over Kuwait in the tournament opener.
The Vietnam futsal team had an emotional start in Group B of the 2026 Asian Futsal Championship as they came from behind to defeat Kuwait 5-4, securing all 3 points after two thrilling halves.
Vietnam’s futsal squad began poorly, allowing Kuwait to dominate and take the lead twice in the first half. However, coach Diego Giustozzi’s players showed resilience, gradually regaining control and leveling the score at 3-3 before the half ended.
In the second half, Vietnam played more proactively and efficiently, continuously launching coordinated attacks to take a 5-3 lead. In the final minutes, Kuwait employed a power-play strategy and scored once more to narrow the gap, but it was not enough to stop Vietnam from clinching a 5-4 victory in their opening match at the 2026 Asian Futsal Championship.

With the 5-4 win over Kuwait, Vietnam temporarily stands second in Group B with 3 points and a +1 goal difference. Leading the group is Thailand’s national team also with 3 points but a better goal difference (+2) after their 2-0 victory over Lebanon.
In their next match on January 29, Vietnam’s futsal team will face Lebanon.
