Vietnam National Team defeats Uzbekistan just before the Asian Cup finals

The Vietnam women's team won 1-0 against Uzbekistan in a friendly encounter in Hanoi.

On the afternoon of January 27, the Vietnam women's national team played their first friendly match as part of their preparation for the 2027 Women's Asian Cup finals. The match took place at the training ground of the Vietnam Youth Football Training Center. Currently, the Uzbekistan women's team ranks 49th in the world, 13 places below the Vietnam women's team on the FIFA rankings.

The friendly match was played with serious and positive effort from both sides. Ultimately, the Vietnam women's team won 1-0, with the only goal scored by Bích Thùy in the 59th minute. Through this match, the coaching staff continued to review the squad, test formations, and assess players' performance. Some personnel adjustments were made in the second half to manage workload and provide playing opportunities for more players.

Also on the afternoon of January 27, the President of the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF), Trần Quốc Tuấn, attended to watch and encourage the Vietnam women's national team during the friendly match against the Uzbekistan women's team, part of the training phase leading up to the 2026 AFC Women's Asian Cup, which will be held in Australia in March 2026.

The direct presence of the VFF President demonstrates the leadership’s close attention and support for the Vietnam women's team’s preparation, especially as the squad enters a phase of intense training and competition aimed at achieving important goals on the continental stage.

During their domestic training camp, the team is scheduled to play another friendly match against the Uzbekistan women's team on January 29. In early February, coach Mai Đức Chung’s squad will travel to China for training to improve fitness and refine tactics before returning home briefly for the Lunar New Year holiday and then regrouping.

Regarding the squad, the Vietnam women's team has called up 28 players, including 23 who participated in the 33rd SEA Games, along with the addition of young talents. Providing opportunities for younger players continues to be part of the plan to rejuvenate the squad and build depth for both the present and future.
