After the dramatic turnaround win over Kuwait in the opening game of the 2026 Asian Futsal Championship, Coach Diego Giustozzi addressed the team's strong points, limitations, and objectives.
After the intense comeback defeating Kuwait by a score of 5-4 in the opening match of Group B at the 2026 Asian Futsal Championship finals, Head Coach Diego Giustozzi candidly shared his thoughts on the Vietnamese futsal team’s performance, pointing out both positive aspects and areas needing improvement.
At the start of the press conference, the Argentine strategist expressed his satisfaction with the passionate atmosphere in the stands. He stated: “The atmosphere in the stadium today was fantastic. Having so many fans come to support is very beneficial for futsal. I also want to congratulate our players because the first match in a major tournament is always the toughest.”
Regarding the technical aspects, Coach Diego Giustozzi acknowledged that the Vietnamese futsal team faced several challenges in the first half. He explained: “During the first half, we were not fully comfortable with the playing surface and the ball; it took about 10-15 minutes to adjust. This has happened before, when we couldn’t maintain balance throughout the full 40 minutes. However, the second half was perfect, with the team playing true to their futsal style. The difference was in composure and experience. It was a tough match, but we managed to win.”
Speaking about squad depth, the 48-year-old coach believes the team still needs more time to develop: “We need to play more matches like this. Eight players in our lineup are experiencing their first Asian Futsal Championship finals. The AFC environment is completely different, gathering the strongest and most experienced teams in the continent. Therefore, we require more games at this level to gain experience,” he shared.
Additionally, Coach Diego Giustozzi expressed satisfaction with his players’ fighting spirit: “I am pleased because they showed resilience, have a solid foundation, and played vigorously. With the current squad, our focus is solely on playing authentic futsal. In fact, in this match, we could have won by a larger margin.”
Looking ahead to the match against Lebanon, he warned it would be a tough challenge: “Lebanon is a completely different opponent; they play deep defense and counterattack. This will be a difficult game because we don’t have many advantages against that style. But I still believe in the team. We are ready to face any opponent. The goal remains unchanged: to earn another 3 points, then take it from there,” Coach Diego Giustozzi emphasized.
