Indonesia demonstrated their power at the 2026 Asian Cup futsal finals by winning decisively against South Korea in the first game.
Host nation Indonesia had a spectacular start at the 2026 Asian Futsal Championship finals with an impressive 5-0 victory over South Korea. The Southeast Asian team currently leads Group A, having earned 3 points like Iraq, who previously defeated Kyrgyz Republic 4-2, but Indonesia holds a superior goal difference.
Indonesia quickly took control with a high-intensity attacking style, rewarded by an opening goal in the second minute from a corner kick, where Rizki Xavier passed to Mochammad Iqbal who easily tapped the ball into the net.
South Korea struggled to respond to Indonesia’s relentless attacks and had to retreat deep into their own half. Goalkeeper Jeong Joo-ho did his best to prevent the East Asian team from conceding more goals.
However, goalkeeper Jeong was powerless in the 11th minute when Indonesia doubled their lead, as Ardiansyah Nur assisted Rio Pangestu who scored a beautiful goal from outside the box. Despite the match flow, South Korea’s futsal team found an opportunity, but Kang Ju-kwang’s curved header was blocked by Dewa Rizki with a header, before Jeong pushed a powerful long-range shot from Yogi Saputra onto the post.
Indonesia started the second half just as fast, with Mochammad scoring a precise goal in the 21st minute from a rebound after Israr Megantara’s initial shot from a tight angle hit the crossbar. The score increased to 4-0 eight minutes later when Firman Andriansyah delivered a perfect pass to Israr, who slipped behind South Korea’s defense to finish past goalkeeper Jeong, who was frozen in place.
South Korea’s futsal team had a chance to reduce the deficit in the 32nd minute after a slick one-touch combination opened space for Kim Gun-woo, but the 28-year-old missed the target against Ahmad Habiebie.
The convincing victory was sealed with 7 minutes remaining when Reza Gunawan reacted quickest to score from close range, ending the match with a resounding 5-0 result. Indonesia will next face Kyrgyzstan, while South Korea hopes to earn their first points against Iraq in the second round.
