Looking ahead to the upcoming match against Lebanon, coach Diego Giustozzi predicts it will be a challenging test.
The Vietnam futsal team had an emotional start in Group B of the 2026 Asian Futsal Championship finals by staging a comeback to defeat Kuwait 5-4, securing all 3 points after two highly intense halves.
Looking ahead to the upcoming match against Lebanon, coach Diego Giustozzi predicts it will be a challenging test. “Lebanon is a completely different opponent; they play deep defense and counterattack. This will be a tough match because we do not have many advantages against this style of play
But I still have faith in the team. We are ready to compete against any opponent. Our goal remains unchanged: to earn another 3 points, and then take it from there. We will continue to prepare thoroughly for the next match.”, emphasized coach Diego Giustozzi.
Regarding the technical aspects, coach Diego Giustozzi believes the Vietnam futsal team needs time to adapt to the playing conditions. “In the first half, we were not fully comfortable with the court and the ball, needing about 10–15 minutes to get into rhythm.
This also happened before, as we couldn’t maintain balance throughout the full 40 minutes. However, the second half was perfect, with the whole team playing true to their futsal identity. The difference was in determination and experience. It was a very tough game, but we managed to win.”
Speaking about his players’ performance, coach Diego Giustozzi frankly stated that the team still has many areas to improve. “We need more matches like this. This is the first Asian Championship finals for 8 players in the squad. The AFC is a completely different environment, gathering the strongest and most experienced teams in the continent. Therefore, we need more games at this level to gain experience.”
