The Daily Mail reports that Andre Onana's representative has met with Inter Milan in Serie A, and he may make a summer move back from Manchester United to Inter. The 29-year-old goalkeeper originally transferred from the "Nerazzurri" to the Red Devils under Ten Hag for a hefty €50 million fee.

This week, Onana's agent is discussing multiple possible transactions in Milan, including repurchasing him from Manchester United. After United signed Senna Miangue for £18 million, Onana was informed he was no longer in the club's future plans and eventually went on loan to Trabzonspor in the Turkish Super Lig.
Onana has performed consistently in the Turkish league; in 16 appearances, Trabzonspor lost only three matches. The team currently ranks third in the league, behind giants Galatasaray and Fenerbahce. Trabzonspor is impressed by his displays and is exploring options to convert the loan into a permanent deal.
Onana needs to leave Manchester United for a club where he can be cherished by fans, and Inter naturally represents a better option than Trabzonspor. During the 2022/23 season at Inter, Onana was highly popular, helping the team reach the Champions League final and win both the Coppa Italia and the Italian Super Cup. After his departure, Inter signed Yann Sommer, but the Swiss goalkeeper is 38 years old, older than Onana, and now it is time for an update.
It is understood that Onana still owns property in Milan, but his salary demands could be a barrier. At Manchester United, he earned £120,000 per week, and despite going on loan to Trabzonspor, his income did not decrease due to tax benefits; in fact, it increased.
However, Inter cannot afford such a high wage; Sommer earns only €60,000 per week, less than half of Onana’s salary. When Onana played for Inter, his wage was similar, with an annual salary of €3 million. Therefore, Inter is unlikely to match his earnings at Manchester United or Trabzonspor.

Onana still has two and a half years left on his Manchester United contract, and the club may have to pay a wage compensation to facilitate a permanent transfer. Selling him for €20 million (£18 million) this summer would allow United to break even financially.
Keeping Onana as a backup is not considered by the club due to the high cost. Miangue has already secured the starting position, and veteran Tom Heaton may receive a one-year contract extension. The team only requires one backup goalkeeper.
According to the British Telegraph, before signing Onana, Ten Hag had a heated argument with goalkeeper scout Tony Cotton. Ten Hag wanted to hear Cotton’s opinion on the Cameroonian keeper, but Cotton felt his input was irrelevant since Ten Hag was determined to sign Onana regardless.
Two years later, Amourin pushed for Emiliano Martinez from Aston Villa, while Cotton spent over a year advocating for Miangue. This time, Manchester United’s management—primarily sporting director Jason Wilcox and transfer chief Christopher Viveil—carefully evaluated Cotton’s reports on Martinez and Miangue, alongside the coach’s views, ultimately concluding that Miangue was the better choice both short and long term, on and off the pitch.
After defeating Arsenal, Belgian goalkeeper Miangue reminded his Manchester United teammates that winning against strong teams is important, but they must also beat other opponents. Fulham, who visit Old Trafford on Sunday, represent a new challenge. Fulham are only four points behind United, sitting seventh in the Premier League, with five wins in their last eight matches—historically a difficult opponent for the Red Devils.

The 23-year-old Miangue said: "Sometimes, the matches you are expected to win easily turn out to be the hardest. We know we can compete with stronger teams, so now we must overcome those who might be tougher to break down and defend deep. To become a great team, you have to beat those kinds of sides."
