Coach Jurgen Klopp is said to be moving forward with a project to create a brand-new football competition, working alongside a World Cup-winning player.
Jurgen Klopp has long been regarded as one of the finest managers of his generation, having previously led teams such as Mainz 05, Borussia Dortmund, and Liverpool.
The German tactician helped Liverpool secure numerous major trophies including the Champions League, Premier League, FA Cup, League Cup, FA Community Shield, UEFA Super Cup, and FIFA Club World Cup, before departing Anfield at the end of the 2023/24 season. After leaving Liverpool, Klopp was appointed as the Global Football Director at Red Bull.
Recently, the 1967-born coach was rumored to be taking over Real Madrid following Xabi Alonso’s departure, but Klopp quickly dismissed these rumors. Instead, the 58-year-old manager is nurturing a project unprecedented in football history.
According to the latest information, Klopp is currently involved in plans to create a new football league in Germany. According to BILD, Klopp is collaborating with 2014 World Cup winner Sami Khedira, German Football Association CEO Marc Lenz, and Andreas Rettig, a representative from the German Football Association.
The idea for this new league stems from growing concerns that young players are struggling to break into first teams. Klopp’s group is reportedly considering launching an Under-21 league to help young talents gain meaningful match experience before stepping up to the Bundesliga.
Currently, only nine German football academies rank among the top 100 most effective youth training centers in Europe. Additionally, the Bundesliga is considered to have the lowest proportion of homegrown players among Europe’s top five leagues. Statistics show that players not developed in academies account for approximately 85% of total playing minutes in the German top flight.
Earlier, in October 2025, Klopp joined a panel of experts established by the German Football Association aimed at finding solutions to improve and develop football in the country for the future.
