After Carrick’s appointment, 20-year-old Manchester United prospect Cody Menoe has come back to life, consistently starting matches with positive displays. English media rumors indicate the club aims to reopen renewal negotiations. Nonetheless, official contact has not started, and the Red Devils are taking their time, planning to negotiate later this year.

Manchester United is highly satisfied with Menoe’s recent performances, but so far no contract discussions have taken place. Menoe signed his current deal in 2023, with reported weekly wages varying between £25,000, £50,000, and £80,000, likely due to variable clauses.
The club previously negotiated a pay raise and contract extension with him but failed to reach an agreement. Menoe’s agent demanded a weekly salary of £200,000, exceeding United’s initial plans, which aimed only to raise his wages to match senior first-team players, typically between £80,000 and £150,000.
Italian transfer expert Fabrizio Romano stated that Manchester United will attempt to renegotiate Menoe’s contract again after the January transfer window closes. His current deal runs until June 2027, with an option for the club to extend it by one year automatically.
Romano said: "Manchester United will start pushing for Menoe’s new contract soon after the winter window closes. Although his contract doesn’t expire soon, the club wants to show full trust in him. They aim to offer a longer contract with higher wages. The weekly salary is the real focus; the urgency of the contract length is less crucial. Menoe has never considered a permanent exit from United. Napoli nearly secured a loan deal, but it lacked a purchase option, so Menoe will always return to United.”
The Daily Mail revealed that although Ruben Amorim’s dismissal might affect Menoe’s future at Manchester United, much work remains before a renewal can be reached. There are also issues between the player and some senior club officials. Therefore, the report states that the contract extension is "far from finalized."
At present, Manchester United is still weighing whether to act at the last moment in the January window. According to reports, insiders within the club are uncertain about signing a new midfielder in January. Senior management fears that failing to bring in reinforcements could mean missing out on a return to the Champions League, a scenario no one wishes to face.

Thus, although it is generally believed that United may not make signings before the transfer window closes on February 2 and will rebuild the midfield in summer, no one dares to completely rule out any winter moves. As one source said, a short-term loan for a midfielder until the season’s end might only progress "very, very late."
It is reported that Matt Hargreaves, the club’s negotiation head, held multiple meetings in January to discuss the possibility of bringing in a midfielder in the short term. Names like João Gomes, Tyler Adams, Wilfred Ndidi, and Ruben Neves were mentioned, with German sources also citing Felix Nmecha. Many of these players are difficult to acquire in January, especially on loan.
Another plan involves offloading Dutch striker Zirkzee while bringing in a new forward. Zirkzee has attracted interest from Serie A clubs Roma and Juventus. This week, rumors surfaced that Manchester United held talks over a potential transfer for Rennes striker Kader Meite. The 18-year-old has scored three goals this season and is a teammate of United defender Lenny Yaro in France’s U21 national youth team.
The UK’s Guardian reports that United has been scouting Meite and contacted his agent. Meanwhile, Saudi club Al Hilal has offered €23 million, which Rennes rejected. The oil-rich club may raise their bid to €40 million. Rennes responded by saying they will not sell this season and prefer to negotiate in the summer. The Manchester Evening News states that United has no plans to sign Meite in the winter window.
This week, 16-year-old Irish young center-back Ike Manjor is undergoing a week-long trial at Manchester United. The club will arrange a closed-door friendly match to evaluate him. Manjor is an Ireland U15 youth international from Cork City’s academy, which produced two Manchester United legends: Denis Irwin and Roy Keane.

It is said that many Premier League clubs are interested in signing Manjor. A month ago, he also trialed at Tottenham. Manjor will turn 17 next month, but due to Brexit, even if he signs for United, he will have to wait another year before officially joining. Current United manager Carrick places great importance on youth development, as his son Jesse Carrick is also part of the club’s academy.
