The Vietnamese-German goalkeeper Patrik Lê Giang has formally received Vietnamese citizenship, as confirmed by the most recent statement from the VFF.
The completion of the naturalization process for Patrik Lê Giang is part of the strategy to enhance professional quality and aim towards important objectives for Vietnamese football in the near future. This proposal was put forward by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism based on a comprehensive assessment of the goalkeeper’s abilities, international playing experience, and consistent performance in recent professional seasons.
It is known that the 2025 Vietnamese Nationality Law, with several amendments and supplements, was enacted to meet the demands of nationality management amid deeper international integration and the growing overseas Vietnamese community. Compared to previous regulations, the new law adds and adjusts important provisions to facilitate easier naturalization and reinstatement of Vietnamese nationality, especially for people of Vietnamese descent, while affirming an open policy aligned with development trends and integration.
In sports, adding athletes and players with high professional skills, international experience, and a strong desire to contribute to national football aligns with the spirit and direction of the 2025 Vietnamese Nationality Law. Patrik Lê Giang is a goalkeeper developed in the European football environment, playing in Vietnam since 2023 for Ho Chi Minh City FC and currently a key player for the Ho Chi Minh City Police Club, who is considered to fully meet the criteria of expertise, form, and long-term potential contribution to Vietnamese football.
A few days ago, the Slovakian-Vietnamese goalkeeper posted a message commemorating three years of living and working in the S-shaped country. He shared: "Three years in Vietnam! Grateful to Vietnam for giving me the chance to live, learn, and grow every day."
