Coach Nguyen Cong Manh confirmed he would not jeopardize Viktor Le's injury, and praised the Vietnamese overseas midfielder for his noticeable improvement and strong impact following the U23 Asian Cup.
After the goalless draw between Hong Linh Ha Tinh and Becamex Ho Chi Minh City in the 12th round of the V-League, Coach Nguyen Cong Manh openly shared his thoughts on the decision to substitute Vietnamese overseas midfielder Viktor Le early, as well as his evaluation of the player’s significant progress after returning from the U23 Asian Championship.
In the match at Ha Tinh stadium, Viktor Le was in the starting lineup, marking his return to the V-League after a memorable journey with the U23 Vietnam team. The 2003-born midfielder quickly made an impression with his energetic play, active movement, and engagement in midfield battles. However, his substitution shortly after halftime raised questions among many fans.
Explaining this decision, Coach Nguyen Cong Manh said the coaching staff had to prioritize safety above all else. “If you notice around the 40th minute of the first half, Viktor Le showed signs of muscle pain. This shows how hard he was trying, but I could not risk his injury. Continuing to play could have led to a more serious injury for Viktor Le,”emphasized the Hong Linh Ha Tinh coach.
Besides Viktor Le’s physical condition, Coach Nguyen Cong Manh also acknowledged that the substitution was made to create additional attacking options.“Secondly, I wanted to bring Balotelli on to see his ability to make a difference. In fact, this proved to be the right decision, as Balotelli’s entry put considerable pressure on Becamex Ho Chi Minh City’s defense,”he shared.
Notably, when discussing Viktor Le after returning from the U23 Vietnam team with an Asian Bronze Medal, Coach Nguyen Cong Manh expressed his satisfaction. “I see a huge improvement in Viktor Le since he returned to the team. His passion and sense of responsibility spread to those around him. I am truly happy to work with him,”he said.
According to Coach Nguyen Cong Manh, Viktor Le’s difference is not only in spirit but also in skills. “I must say that since returning from the U23, Le has changed remarkably. Many aspects of his play, thinking, and competitive spirit have clearly advanced,”he concluded.
These comments indicate that Viktor Le is gradually becoming a key figure in Hong Linh Ha Tinh’s long-term plans, although the minor injury during his comeback still causes some concern for the coaching staff and fans.
