The Vietnam futsal team left Indonesia to head back home after the 2026 Asian Futsal Championship, ready to pursue their upcoming target at the 2026 Southeast Asian Futsal Championship.
After concluding their journey at the 2026 Asian Futsal Championship final round, the Vietnam futsal team officially departed Indonesia to return home, marking the first stop in their preparation plan for the next objective. Although they could not advance as far as hoped, the entire team completed the tournament with a serious and determined spirit, striving despite facing significant pressure, especially during the quarterfinal match against the host team.
On the morning of February 4th, members of the Vietnam futsal team packed their belongings and split into two groups to leave Jakarta. The group of players and coaching staff from the northern region flew to Hanoi at 1:00 PM, while the southern group returned to Ho Chi Minh City at 2:40 PM the same day. Traveling in two directions helped the team quickly stabilize their routines after a tense period of competition in Indonesia.
Prior to that, the team was eliminated in the quarterfinals after a narrow 2-3 loss to Indonesia. This match saw Coach Diego Giustozzi’s players competing under intense pressure from around 10,000 home fans in the stadium. Nevertheless, the team’s resilient spirit received recognition from experts and the leadership of the Vietnam Football Federation.
Immediately after the match, VFF Vice President Trần Anh Tú met with the team to encourage and commend their fighting spirit. VFF leaders highly appreciated the players’ efforts and requested the coaching staff to promptly conduct a comprehensive evaluation of the tournament, drawing necessary lessons regarding both technical performance and organizational work.
Upon returning to Vietnam, players will be given time to rest and celebrate the Lunar New Year with their families. However, VFF leadership also emphasized the importance of players maintaining self-discipline in training, preserving their fitness and form to be ready for the next team assembly soon.
According to the plan, after the Tet holiday, Coach Diego Giustozzi and his squad will reconvene to prepare for the 2026 Southeast Asian Futsal Championship, expected to take place in Thailand in April. Based on the assessment of their performance at the Asian Championship final round, the coaching staff may make adjustments to the squad to ensure team balance and improve professional quality for the upcoming goals.
