Cristiano Ronaldo is still missing from Al-Nassr’s squad, but during the strike controversy, fans of the Saudi Pro League have delivered an emotional show of backing for him in the stadium.
Al-Nassr supporters have conveyed a deeply emotional message to Cristiano Ronaldo, as the Portuguese superstar continues to miss his second consecutive match amid speculations that he is on a “strike.”
Since January, Ronaldo has not appeared on Al-Nassr’s match roster, missing two Saudi Pro League games against Al-Riyadh and Al-Ittihad. According to Portuguese media sources, the 41-year-old forward is dissatisfied, believing that the Saudi Public Investment Fund (PIF) favors other clubs in the transfer market, even though this entity owns Al-Nassr as well as some other major teams in the league.
In response to Ronaldo’s actions, the Saudi Pro League organizers issued a statement condemning the strike behavior of the five-time Ballon d’Or winner. However, during the recent Al-Nassr versus Al-Ittihad match, the home fans at Mrsool Park displayed a completely opposite attitude.
In the stands, Al-Nassr fans simultaneously raised cards bearing the phrase “Ronaldo 7,” forming a “golden wall” surrounding the stadium. The elaborate cheer included rapid drumbeats and chants of “Siu” in rhythm, affirming their affection for the team’s leading striker.
This show of support could motivate Ronaldo to return to play soon, especially as he pursues the milestone of 1000 career goals, needing 39 more. Nonetheless, the prospect of Ronaldo continuing to score in Saudi Arabia remains uncertain.
According to The i Paper, Sporting CP, Ronaldo’s youth club, is considering bringing him back to Europe. Ronaldo’s current contract with Al-Nassr includes a £43 million release clause, which could be activated this summer.
Should the Portuguese star depart, Saudi officials are reportedly prepared with alternatives. Sources indicate Mohamed Salah and Bruno Fernandes are viewed as “ideal candidates” to become the new icons of the Saudi Pro League in the future.
