OFFICIAL: Newly naturalized overseas Vietnamese registered to play in V-League

Canadian-Vietnamese midfielder Camilo Vasconcelos has been formally registered by Hải Phòng FC for the latter half of the 2025/26 V-League season, assigned the number 10 jersey and set to make his debut against Hà Nội FC.

Hải Phòng FC has officially completed the registration process for Canadian-Vietnamese midfielder Camilo Vasconcelos to participate in matches during the second phase of the 2025/2026 V.League season, following a trial period where he impressed head coach Chu Đình Nghiêm and the coaching staff of the coastal club.

Accordingly, the player born in 2005 will wear the number 10 jersey for Hải Phòng FC, a number symbolizing creativity and significant influence on the team's playstyle. Assigning this number to Camilo reflects the coaching staff’s strong confidence and high expectations for this young overseas Vietnamese midfielder.

Camilo Vasconcelos was born on May 19, 2005, in Vietnam, with a father of Portuguese-Canadian descent and a Vietnamese mother. The player himself has shared that his mother still holds his birth certificate in Vietnam, which facilitates legal procedures for playing in the V.League and supports his long-term commitment to Vietnamese football.

Developed through the Canadian school football system, Camilo attended St. Benedict CSS (Cambridge, Ontario) and was honored as the school's Best Player in 2023. Previously, he played in League 1 Ontario for Guelph United and was voted the team’s Best U21 Player.

Between 2023 and 2025, Camilo Vasconcelos competed in the Canadian Premier League (CPL) for York United and HFX Wanderers. He made his professional debut in October 2023 and accumulated 13 appearances in Canada’s top league, mostly as a substitute. In February 2024, Camilo signed a professional contract with HFX Wanderers valid through the end of the 2025 season.

According to expert evaluations, Camilo Vasconcelos is a versatile player capable of performing on both wings, as an attacking midfielder, or as a striker. Although only 1.73 meters tall, this overseas Vietnamese midfielder possesses good speed, solid technique, excellent close control, and flexible passing skills.

Camilo Vasconcelos is expected to make his debut in the match against Hà Nội FC at Hàng Đẫy Stadium, promising to bring new tactical options to the coastal city club for the remainder of the season.
