Despite the 1-2 loss to HAGL, Ninh Bình FC left a significant mark thanks to the brilliance of striker Geovane Magno, who is on the verge of obtaining Vietnamese citizenship.
At the start of the match, Ninh Bình FC took the initiative to push their line forward, control the game, and create several attacking chances against HAGL’s goal. However, after losing possession in midfield, the home team paid the price when Minh Tâm seized the opportunity to score for the visitors in the 16th minute. This goal forced Ninh Bình to press harder, but breaking through HAGL’s defense was far from easy.
Throughout the first half, Ninh Bình generated some notable chances, including a one-touch volley by Thành Trung from outside the penalty area following a rebound from Hoàng Đức’s free kick. Unfortunately, the ball narrowly missed the post. In the second half, the home side continued to increase pressure, forcing HAGL to fall back into a defensive stance.
The turning point came in the 63rd minute. Geovane Magno was fouled near the penalty area, earning Ninh Bình a free kick from the right flank. From just over 20 meters away, Geovane unleashed a powerful and precise left-footed shot. The ball traced a beautiful curved path, out of reach for goalkeeper Trung Kiên, before hitting the back of the net, causing the stadium to erupt in cheers. This was a world-class free kick masterpiece, showcasing the 1994-born striker’s technique, ball control, and composure.
Geovane’s goal leveled the score at 1-1, reigniting hope for a home point. In the remaining time, both teams exchanged exciting attacks. However, in the 85th minute, HAGL capitalized on a swift counterattack following a Ninh Bình corner. Duy Tâm carried the ball from his own half and assisted Marciel, who finished with a precise strike to secure a 2-1 victory for the visitors.
Although Ninh Bình couldn’t secure points, Geovane’s performance left a strong impression. Notably, this masterpiece came just as the Brazilian striker is reportedly very close to completing his Vietnamese naturalization process. On February 6, Geovane expressed his strong desire to represent the Vietnamese national team on his personal page with the statement: “Keep fighting for the dream,” accompanied by the flags of Vietnam and Brazil.
Geovane Magno has played in Vietnam since 2019, representing several V.League clubs and currently serving as a key player for Ninh Bình FC. He is regarded as a versatile striker with excellent technique, diverse finishing skills, and particular threat on set pieces.
Geovane’s inclusion as a naturalized player will provide coach Kim Sang-sik with a quality option in attack, especially as the Vietnamese national team prepares for important objectives in 2026, including the 2027 Asian Cup qualifiers. With his current form and strong dedication, Geovane promises to be a valuable addition to the “Golden Star Warriors”’ playing style.
