Overseas Vietnamese from Canada makes significant progress in the V-League

Canadian-Vietnamese midfielder Camilo Minh was trusted by coach Chu Đình Nghiêm to start right in his first V-League match, signaling a new breath of fresh air for Hải Phòng.

Canadian-Vietnamese midfielder Camilo Minhis set to make a remarkable debut in the V-League after being trusted by coach Chu Đình Nghiêm to start in his very first game for Hải Phòng. Notably, this debut took place at Hàng Đẫy Stadium, where the Hải Phòng team played as visitors against the traditionally strong and fiercely competitive Hanoi FC in Vietnam’s top football league.

Following a trial period where he quickly impressed with his skills, Camilo Minh was officially registered by Hải Phòng to play in the second half of the 2025/2026 V-League season. Not only was he given the meaningful number 10 jersey, but the 2005-born midfielder was also immediately included in the starting lineup. This bold yet well-founded decision by Hải Phòng’s coaching staff comes as the team seeks young, energetic players to refresh their playing style, especially in attack.

The match at Hàng Đẫy held special significance for Camilo Minh personally. Camilo Minh was born on May 19, 2005, in Vietnam, with a Canadian father of Portuguese descent and a Vietnamese mother. He developed his football skills in Canada, having played in League1 Ontario and the Canadian Premier League for York United and HFX Wanderers. Although mostly coming off the bench, Camilo Minh is highly regarded for his speed, technical ability, and versatility to play multiple attacking positions.

Coach Chu Đình Nghiêm’s decision to start him on his V-League debut reflects the strong confidence Hải Phòng FC places in Camilo Minh.
