The Opta supercomputer has offered its analysis and predictions regarding the Liverpool and Man City clash in the 25th round of the Premier League.
The spotlight of Premier League round 25 will focus on Anfield Stadium, where reigning champions Liverpool will host their fierce rivals Man City.
Before the match kicks off, the supercomputer Opta has predicted the winning probabilities for both teams in the upcoming showdown. Opta considers Liverpool the favorite with a winning chance of up to 43%. Nevertheless, Man City still holds a significant opportunity, being predicted to have a 30.3% chance of leaving Anfield with all three points, while the possibility of a draw stands at 26.7%.
Meanwhile, the head-to-head record between the two teams suggests the match will be full of exciting moments.
According to Opta’s statistics, Liverpool boasts an impressive home record against Man City, having lost only once in their last 22 Premier League encounters at Anfield.
However, after a commanding 3–0 win at Etihad in November, Man City hopes to complete a double over Liverpool in the same Premier League season. The last time the Citizens achieved this was back in the 1936/37 season, which was also the last time they defeated Liverpool in two consecutive league matches.
Notably, the last team to beat Liverpool twice without conceding any goals in a single Premier League season was West Ham in 2015/16.
For Man City, with the gap to Arsenal in the title race having widened to 9 points, Pep Guardiola’s squad must win against Liverpool to avoid falling further behind.
However, the visitors’ biggest concern is Erling Haaland’s form, as the Norwegian striker has gone three consecutive Premier League games without scoring. Significantly, he has yet to score in any of his three Premier League away matches against Liverpool. Anfield remains one of the two rare stadiums where Haaland has played but failed to find the net, the other being Sunderland’s Stadium of Light.
Conversely, Liverpool enters the match with high confidence following a convincing victory over Newcastle in the previous round. The impressive performance from the attacking line, featuring players like Florian Wirtz and Hugo Ekitike, promises to challenge Man City’s defense, which is currently weakened due to injuries to several key players.
If they make good use of their home advantage, Arne Slot’s team could close the gap with the top 5, keeping their hopes alive for a Champions League spot next season.
The match between Liverpool and Man City will take place at 11:30 PM tonight (February 8).
