The Saudi journalist emphasizes that Al-Nassr and the country's football system surpass any single person, simultaneously harshly condemning Cristiano Ronaldo's behavior.
The relationship between Cristiano Ronaldo and Saudi Arabian football is currently at an extremely tense stage. Although CR7 continues to maintain an impressive goal-scoring record, backstage controversies, especially his strike actions to pressure the management, have enraged the local public. The peak of this criticism wave came from the sharp remarks of Waleed Al-Faraj, the most famous sports presenter in the Gulf region.
During the prime-time show "Action Ma-Waleed," Al-Faraj did not hesitate to directly target the Portuguese superstar. The journalist stressed that Ronaldo must fully understand his position: "Ronaldo should know exactly where he stands. This is Saudi Arabia's country, not Ronaldo's Saudi Arabia".
According to Al-Faraj, Ronaldo assuming he has authority over the club is unacceptable. He bluntly called CR7 an "employee" receiving an extraordinary salary and demanded a matching professional attitude: "He is just an employee, earning hundreds of millions of dollars — more than any salary Ronaldo ever earned in Europe. Ronaldo should respect the league or pack up and leave".
Al-Faraj's anger stems from the fact that Ronaldo went on strike for two consecutive matches to protest the Public Investment Fund (PIF) prioritizing transfer budgets for rival club Al-Hilal instead of Al-Nassr. In response to this stance, Al-Faraj affirmed that the club can thrive without him.
"We will not kneel before this player. Are we supposed to beg him? Our country and league are bigger than any player, and Al-Nassr has been and will always be a great club before and after Ronaldo's arrival", Al-Faraj declared proudly. He also sarcastically noted that even top stars from Manchester City or Arsenal in the Premier League would never dare to refuse playing to pressure their owners like Ronaldo is doing.
In reality, although Ronaldo plays an indispensable role with 18 goals this season, Al-Nassr performed steadily in the two matches without him. Meanwhile, analysts note that Al-Nassr is actually the team receiving the largest investment from PIF, including Ronaldo’s record 200 million euro annual salary.
Ronaldo’s attempt to exert influence beyond his role as a player is setting a bad precedent. Representatives of the Saudi Pro League have issued a warning, urging him to return to training instead of trying to change league policies. Amid this context, rumors about Ronaldo seeking to leave Saudi Arabia to return to Europe or move to the US are spreading, signaling an uneasy end to this historic contract.
