Vietnamese national player sets a record at the 2026 AFC Futsal Championship

Đinh Công Viên’s goal against Lebanon’s futsal team stands as the quickest goal in the 2026 AFC Futsal Championship.

The 2026 AFC Futsal Championship concluded with many exciting moments. Iran claimed their 14th title, demonstrating the formidable quality of the Middle Eastern team. Meanwhile, host nation Indonesia caused a sensation by reaching the semifinals and then the final for the first time.

As for the Vietnam futsal team, coach Diego Giustozzi’s squad was eliminated early in the quarterfinals after a 2-3 loss to Indonesia. Nevertheless, the team in red led one statistical category in this year’s tournament.

Specifically, Đinh Công Viên’s goal at the 19th second against Lebanon in the group stage was the fastest goal of the tournament. From the very first attack, coach Diego Giustozzi’s team quickly took the lead. Thịnh Phát skillfully maneuvered before assisting Công Viên, who sprinted in to finish close range, beating the Lebanese goalkeeper.

Just minutes later, Vietnam doubled their lead when Văn Tú sent a long pass to Ngọc Ánh making a run. Although his initial one-touch shot missed, Ngọc Ánh quickly followed up with a precise finish to make it 2-0.

Although they could not advance further in the 2026 AFC Futsal Championship, coach Diego Giustozzi expressed satisfaction with his players’ determined journey and remains confident about the future of Vietnamese futsal: “Vietnamese futsal has a present and a future. But at this moment, we need to make some very important decisions. The players need more experience, more playing time, and to face various situations and challenges. I believe Vietnam is a very good team,”the Argentine strategist emphasized after the quarterfinal match.

Returning to Vietnam, the players will take a break to celebrate Tet with their families. Based on a comprehensive evaluation of their performance at the 2026 AFC Futsal Championship, the coaching staff will review and learn from the technical aspects, while also planning the personnel for the upcoming training camp ahead of the 2026 Southeast Asian Futsal Championship, scheduled in Thailand this April. It is expected that the Vietnamese futsal team may adjust its lineup to ensure balance and improve overall quality.
