Lionel Messi's Inter Miami remains active in the transfer market, notably after the latest statements from head coach Javier Mascherano.
Inter Miami, led by Lionel Messi, is gearing up for a challenging season, having to defend their MLS Cup title while competing in multiple international tournaments. To handle this demanding schedule, the club has been very active in the transfer market, and according to Coach Javier Mascherano, the door for adding new players is still open.
This is considered the busiest transfer window in Inter Miami's history. Including new signings and key contract renewals, the club has announced a total of 10 additions so far. Nevertheless, Inter Miami may still bring in more players, as reports suggest they are working to bring Baltasar Rodriguez back from Racing Club.
Mascherano himself confirmed that the club’s management is still actively monitoring the market. Before traveling to Ecuador for their final friendly match in South America against Barcelona SC, he said: “We haven't closed the transfer window yet because this period is longer than before. The club is always looking for players who can contribute and elevate the current squad.”
Looking ahead to the 2026 season, Inter Miami has strengthened their squad with several names including German Berterame, Luis Barraza, David Ayala, Dayne St. Clair, Micael, Sergio Reguilón, Facundo Mura, and Daniel Pinter. Additionally, Tadeo Allende and Rocco Rios Novo have returned to Florida on permanent transfers after finishing their loan spells last season.
After winning their first MLS Cup title in history, Inter Miami faced significant losses as experienced pillars Sergio Busquets and Jordi Alba officially retired. To fill these gaps, the club signed David Ayala and Sergio Reguilon.
Mascherano expressed satisfaction with how the club handled these important departures. He stated: “I feel content. In an environment like MLS, when you are champions and key players leave, replacing them is never easy.”
He added: “The club has been very flexible and smart in seeking players and opportunities, such as Dayne St. Clair, who joined on a free transfer, and Facundo Mura. In other circumstances, these players could have cost us a lot and been difficult to acquire. We found a solution.”
The main MLS transfer window remains open until March 26, meaning Inter Miami still has over a month to finalize their squad. Based on Mascherano’s recent remarks, it is likely The Herons will continue to be active in the transfer market.
