Arab Press: Vietnam is about to have a world-class FIFA standard mega stadium

Qatari media (BeIN Sports) reported that Vietnam is constructing a stadium with a capacity of 135,000 seats, a project expected to turn Vietnam into a new destination for major international sporting events.

Right in the headline, BeIN Sports emphasized: “Vietnam will build the world's largest stadium named Trống Đồng with a seating capacity exceeding 130,000.” 

According to BeIN Sports, the Trống Đồng stadium project has officially commenced construction. This facility is designed on a scale surpassing many of today's top stadiums. In the article, Qatari media clearly highlighted: “Vietnam will become the country with the largest stadium in the world. This ongoing construction will hold 135,000 spectators, surpassing North Korea's Rungrado Stadium, currently the largest stadium worldwide, by about 5,000 seats.”

BeIN Sports also revealed that the Trống Đồng stadium is expected to be completed by 2028. The facility will feature a flexible retractable roof, allowing it to host not only football matches but also large-scale cultural, artistic, community, and entertainment events year-round regardless of weather conditions.

Beyond being the “largest in the world,” the Trống Đồng stadium is regarded as a strategic project to boost Vietnam's appeal on the global sports map. BeIN Sports quoted this viewpoint clearly: “This stadium is also seen as an opportunity for Vietnam to become a new destination for top international sports events, whether FIFA, AFC, or the Olympic Committee, as it is built to meet the highest regional standards and fully satisfy the strict requirements these organizations demand for event-hosting stadiums..”

Trống Đồng is not only an iconic construction but also a “ticket” allowing Vietnam to vie for hosting rights of major tournaments, from continental to global levels. If recognized by FIFA and AFC as meeting the highest standards, Vietnam can fully aim to host large-scale sporting events.

Currently, according to statistics cited by BeIN Sports, the three largest stadiums worldwide are Rungrado in North Korea with 130,000 seats, Grand Stade Hassan II in Morocco with 120,000 seats (currently bidding to host the 2030 World Cup), and Michigan Stadium in the USA with about 107,000 seats. The emergence of Trống Đồng with 135,000 seats will completely change this ranking.
