Chinese fans showed little enthusiasm despite their team’s 2-0 win over the Vietnamese women's team in the friendly game.
At 6:00 PM on February 10 (Vietnam time), the Vietnam women's team played a friendly against the China women's team at the Shenzhen Youth Football Training Center. Although they created some chances, Coach Mai Đức Chung’s players could not break through the home team’s defense. The match ended with a 2-0 score in favor of the China women's national team.
For Chinese fans, the win over Vietnam’s women's team in a friendly somewhat eased the disappointment from their poor results earlier in 2025. However, many fans did not put much emphasis on the result since a friendly match does not reveal much:
"Not very surprising, no need to celebrate too much over a win against Vietnam’s women’s team" or "It seems Vietnam didn’t field their strongest squad; maybe they’re holding back for the Asian Cup" or "Vietnam lost 2-6 to Uzbekistan, but we only managed a 2-0 win; Uzbekistan is in the same Asian Cup group as China coming up."
Additionally, Chinese fans have high expectations for their team: "Don’t forget we are the reigning Asian champions; can we win again given last year’s poor performance?" "At least we must qualify for the World Cup" or "Starting 2026 with a win like this isn’t bad at all."
The Vietnam women’s team started actively, trying to implement their tactics and maintain tight defense against the home team’s pressure. In the 30th minute, China scored the opening goal. In the second half, China kept pressing and extended their lead to 2-0 in the 46th minute.
According to the plan, the two teams will play another friendly on February 13. This is an opportunity for the Vietnam women’s coaching staff to continue assessing the squad and finalize the lineup before returning home to prepare for the 2026 AFC Women’s Asian Cup finals in Australia in March.
