Abdullah Al Majid, the chairman of Al Nassr football club, is rumored to be facing removal after Cristiano Ronaldo chose not to participate in recent games.
According to Ariyadhiah, Al Nassr's chairman Abdullah Al Majid is highly likely to be fired due to his controversial remarks aimed at Cristiano Ronaldo.
The issue began when Ronaldo expressed dissatisfaction with the Saudi Public Investment Fund (PIF) for not financially supporting Al Nassr during the transfer window, which prevented the club from strengthening the squad as desired. This led to the Portuguese superstar missing the last two matches.
Nevertheless, Al Nassr's management still hopes Ronaldo will end his protest and return to play in the upcoming match. However, recent developments have put chairman Abdullah Al Majid in a difficult position because of his comments regarding Ronaldo's actions. Specifically, he stated: “At Al Nassr, I am more important than Cristiano Ronaldo. His job is simply to play, that’s what he is paid for, nothing more.”
This statement sparked strong backlash within the club. Given Ronaldo's significant influence at Al Nassr, Abdullah Al Majid is expected to be dismissed. Notably, Ronaldo also holds a share in the club, making the situation even more sensitive.
On the other hand, Ronaldo has ended his protest and is ready to return for the next Saudi Pro League match, scheduled for this weekend. After two turbulent weeks filled with speculation about his future, the Portuguese striker decided to come back to the pitch aiming to help Al Nassr compete for the championship this season.
Currently, despite missing the last two games, Cristiano Ronaldo remains the top scorer for Al Nassr in the domestic league. The former Manchester United and Real Madrid player has netted 17 goals in 18 appearances, just behind Julian Quinones with 18 goals and Ivan Toney leading with 19 goals.
At present, Al Nassr stands second in the league table, one point behind the leader. Before returning to domestic competition this weekend, coach Jorge Jesus's team will face Arkadag from Turkmenistan in the AFC Champions League Two.
