Manchester United is in talks with the Bundesliga's top dribbler, but three major issues may cause them to abandon the pursuit! They might sign Mateta for around £30 million.

Manchester United could bring in another attacking player this summer, with Leipzig's speedy Yan Diomande rumored as a target. Sky Sports reports that United held a private meeting with his agent to discuss his future plans. However, if the Red Devils decide to move forward, they will face several obstacles.

The 19-year-old Diomande recently joined the "Roc Nation Sports" agency, but his future is still controlled by "Maxidel Management." This agency facilitated his transfer from Spain's Leganés to Leipzig and holds an agreement that his next transfer will be decided by them.

Moreover, Maxidel owns Diomande’s image rights until 2031, making any transfer deal very complicated. To buy out these rights, the agency and Diomande would receive compensation of €7 million and €5 million respectively. Sky Sports reports that until the legal status of these image rights is resolved, no top club, including Manchester United or Liverpool, will risk signing Diomande.

Although Diomande has scored 8 goals and provided 6 assists in 22 matches this season, with an impressive average of 3.4 dribbles per game, the Ivorian left winger with a right foot has only played half a season in a top league. Leipzig’s €100 million asking price for him is a huge gamble. Leipzig paid just €20 million to sign Diomande, reinforcing their reputation as a "European black market" club.

Analysis suggests that Manchester United is unlikely to pay €100 million for Diomande; this rumor is probably a price-inflation tactic by his agent team. United do not lack right wingers, and if they recruit, a left-footed left winger is a higher priority. However, the club might also opt to sign another striker to strengthen their forward line.

Jean-Philippe Mateta from Crystal Palace was expected to join AC Milan in the January transfer window, but the deal fell through due to a failed medical caused by a knee injury. The French striker has decided to leave, with his contract entering its final year this summer, meaning Palace will likely have to sell him at a reduced price. Additionally, having already signed Jørgen Strand Larsen, Mateta’s departure seems inevitable.

Rumors suggest Manchester United are interested in signing 29-year-old Mateta to replace Zirkzee and compete with Sheshko. Mateta’s price could be as low as £30 million or even less, which would be a very valuable acquisition for an experienced Premier League target man.

Manchester United are also interested in Mateta’s teammate Adam Walton, but the 22-year-old English midfielder is considered the least likely among the three main midfield candidates for the Red Devils.

Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s management team prefers signing Premier League players, with Everton’s Iliman Ndiaye also among the rumored targets. The 25-year-old Senegal international has scored 5 goals and provided 2 assists in 20 Premier League appearances this season, capable of playing across the front line. However, Ndiaye’s contract runs until 2029, and Everton are asking for £70 million.

Manchester United’s main focus this summer is strengthening the defensive midfield position, so all rumors of paying a €100 million fee for a forward are likely just hype. Even if they return to the Champions League, Sir Jim’s budget for forward reinforcements will not be that high.
