Manchester United continues to favor Thomas Tuchel for the permanent head coach role, regardless of Michael Carrick’s strong performance, with the leadership aiming for a seasoned elite manager.
Although Michael Carrick is helping Manchester United revive strongly, the Old Trafford board reportedly leans towards appointing an internationally renowned coach, with Thomas Tuchel emerging as the leading candidate.
Since replacing Ruben Amorim, Carrick has secured 13 out of 15 possible points in the Premier League, bringing MU back into the top 4 and reviving hopes for Champions League qualification. However, according to multiple UK sources, these impressive results are not enough to alter the club’s long-term strategy.
Sky Sports revealed that MU has begun the process of searching for a permanent head coach and does not want short-term results to influence their decision. Gary Neville stated that the “Red Devils” management is proactively approaching, analyzing data, and engaging with potential candidates but will only make a decision at the end of the season.
Among the names mentioned, Thomas Tuchel is considered the most promising option. Manchester Evening News confirms that the German coach is the “priority choice” of the top brass at Old Trafford. Tuchel currently manages the England national team, but his contract runs only until after this summer’s World Cup, making a return to club football from July entirely feasible.
Tuchel has an extensive record at the highest level. He has managed Borussia Dortmund, PSG, Bayern Munich, and notably achieved great success with Chelsea by winning the Champions League and Club World Cup. His Premier League experience and ability to organize a tight tactical system are seen as major advantages if he takes over MU, a team needing stability after years of upheaval.
Meanwhile, Carrick still enjoys support within the dressing room, especially from captain Bruno Fernandes. Nevertheless, MU’s leadership seems to prefer a coach with rich experience and proven status in European competitions.
The future of the managerial position at Old Trafford remains uncertain. But barring major changes before the season ends, Thomas Tuchel is likely to be the top target in the “Red Devils” rebuilding plan.
