Endrick recreates the controversial moment during his time at Real Madrid

The Disciplinary Committee of the Ligue de Football Professionnel (LFP) has officially issued a ruling regarding Endrick's red card in the recent match between Olympique Lyon and Nantes.

Specifically, the LFP Disciplinary Committee has decided to suspend Endrick for one match after he was sent off in the game against Nantes last weekend. The initial direct red card was overturned and replaced with a second yellow card, allowing the Brazilian forward to avoid a suspension ranging from one to three matches for unsporting behavior.

After reviewing the footage and the referee's report, the committee concluded that the incident warranted only two yellow cards instead of a direct red. Therefore, Endrick will miss the match against Nice on February 16 but is eligible to return on February 22 against Strasbourg.

The event occurred in the 52nd minute when the Brazilian player reacted instinctively following a strong tackle by Nantes defender Tabibou. VAR intervened and informed the referee, who then issued a direct red card despite Endrick already having one yellow card.

Lyon had previously called for better protection for the 18-year-old, claiming he had been “targeted” since arriving in Ligue 1. Coach Paulo Fonseca publicly defended the striker, who had an explosive start in France with six goals in six games before the suspension.

Notably, this is not the first time Endrick has faced disciplinary issues. Before joining Lyon on loan, the young Brazilian star experienced a regrettable moment at Real Madrid, even receiving a red card without stepping onto the pitch.

Specifically, during Real Madrid’s 0-2 defeat to Celta Vigo in La Liga early on December 8, 2025, Endrick was sent off while still on the bench. In the 90+2 minute, Real Madrid’s coaching staff and players protested vehemently after Alvaro Carreras received two quick yellow cards. Endrick showed dissent towards the assistant referee and was immediately shown a direct red card by the main referee.

At that time, Endrick was going through the most challenging period of his career, frequently relegated to the bench. He was not trusted by coach Xabi Alonso, playing only 12 minutes in the 4-0 victory over Valencia, and had almost no chance to compete for a spot in Brazil’s 2026 World Cup squad. Spanish media also reported on the possibility of him moving to Lyon on loan, which later became a reality.
