What are the chances for Vietnam's U17 women's team to qualify for the World Cup?

Despite being in a tough group at the Asian finals, Vietnam's U17 women's team is still optimistic about aiming for World Cup qualification.

According to the draw results, Vietnam's U17 women's team is in Group A along with host China, Thailand, and Myanmar. Group B includes Japan, Australia, India, and Lebanon. Meanwhile, Group C features North Korea, South Korea, the Philippines, and Chinese Taipei.

At the 2026 finals, four AFC representatives who participated in the FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup Morocco 2025 — North Korea, Japan, South Korea, and China — have been granted direct entry. Among them, Japan, South Korea, and China have appeared in every edition of the finals. North Korea enters as the reigning Asian and world champion and is the most successful team with four titles in each competition.

Lebanon is the only team making its debut at the 2026 finals after advancing through qualifiers on their third attempt, becoming the 22nd team in the history of the finals. Seven teams that competed in the 2024 finals will return: Australia, China, North Korea, Japan, South Korea, the Philippines, and Thailand.

According to the regulations, the top four teams at the 2026 AFC U17 Women's Asian Cup in China will represent Asia at the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup Morocco 2026.

Asia will have four slots for the 2026 U17 Women's World Cup finals. Therefore, the teams that reach the semifinals at the 2026 Asian U17 Women's Championship will qualify for the World Cup. This is a major goal for Vietnam's U17 women's team in the upcoming tournament.

During qualifiers, Vietnam's U17 women's team showed consistent performance, achieving positive results in group matches and successfully advancing to the final 12 teams in Asia. Their participation in the finals further confirms the progress of Vietnam's youth women's football on the continental stage and provides valuable experience for the players' long-term development.
