Kylian Mbappe is expected to miss Real Madrid’s lineup in the clash with Real Sociedad.
According to journalist Carlos Rodriguez, Kylian Mbappe has missed two consecutive training sessions with Real Madrid.
Specifically, he revealed on X: "Mbappe has not trained with the team for the second day in a row. He is still experiencing discomfort in his left knee, which has been affected since the sprain injury in December. His availability for Saturday’s match against Real Sociedad remains uncertain."
This news raises concerns that Real Madrid might be without the French striker for the La Liga round 24 game against Real Sociedad, currently placed 8th in the league.
In fact, Mbappe has been struggling with knee issues since the start of the season and has missed several matches. Nevertheless, the 1998-born superstar remains a crucial player for the Royal Club this season, scoring 38 goals and providing 5 assists in 31 appearances across all competitions. Since joining Real Madrid in 2024, the 2018 World Cup winner has netted 82 goals and contributed 10 assists in 90 matches.
Besides Mbappe, Real Madrid is also without Jude Bellingham due to a hamstring injury, while Rodrygo Goes’ participation against Real Sociedad is still uncertain. Currently, Bernabeu’s squad only has Gonzalo Garcia as a true striker after young talent Endrick was loaned to Lyon.
In this situation, if Mbappe does not recover in time, Coach Alvaro Arbeloa will certainly face a tactical challenge to ensure the Royal Club can still secure all three points at home.
At present, Real Madrid sits second in the La Liga standings, just one point behind the league leaders and archrivals Barcelona. After the match against Real Sociedad, coach Alvaro Arbeloa’s team will travel to face Benfica in the first leg of the UEFA Champions League playoff on February 18 (Vietnam time).
