On February 13, the Premier League revealed the January Player of the Month, with Brentford’s Brazilian forward Igor Thiago earning the accolade for the second time this season. Brentford managed a successful striker transition by offloading Visa for a large fee and signing Igor at a reasonable price, resulting in a substantial financial gain.

This season, Brentford sold Visa to Newcastle as their final major deal, fetching a transfer fee of €57 million, while the player’s market value was €32 million at the time. The Bees cashed in on Visa at a premium. The 29-year-old Congolese striker has struggled with injuries since joining Newcastle, scoring only once in 11 Premier League appearances this season.

In the summer 2024 transfer window, Brentford signed Igor from Club Brugge for €33 million. After losing key attackers Visa and Mboma, Igor became the main offensive weapon, netting 17 goals in 26 Premier League matches this season. He ranks second in the Premier League scoring charts behind Haaland’s 22 goals. Igor’s consistent performance has helped Brentford achieve a strong standing, currently seventh in the league and just 2 points shy of European competition spots. Brentford has extended Igor’s contract until 2031, with an option for an additional year, which is the club’s best reward for his excellent form this season.
