Tuchel is alarmed as Bellingham faces the risk of missing the 2026 World Cup

Jude Bellingham sustained a serious hamstring injury, prompting Thomas Tuchel’s worry with the 2026 World Cup near and England potentially losing an essential member.

Coach Thomas Tuchel acknowledged that Jude Bellingham is currently “racing against time” to reach peak fitness ahead of the 2026 World Cup, amid the situation where the key Real Madrid midfielder has a hamstring injury.

The 22-year-old star missed the early part of the 2025-26 season due to shoulder surgery aimed at resolving a long-standing issue. After his return, Bellingham quickly regained form and played a crucial role in Real Madrid’s pursuit of La Liga and the Champions League titles.

However, everything suddenly halted on February 1 when he had to leave the field after less than 10 minutes in the match against Rayo Vallecano. Bellingham left the pitch in tears, clutching his painful leg. Initially, he was expected to be out for about five weeks, likely to return for the March international fixtures. Yet, recent Spanish media reports suggest his recovery might extend up to two months.

Speaking at the UEFA Nations League draw, Coach Thomas Tuchel said: “Real Madrid is quite cautious about Jude’s recovery timeline. He is very determined and professional. Jude will do everything possible to be ready by March. This is truly a race against time.”

The German strategist also left open the possibility of making decisions based on Bellingham’s “reliability” if he isn’t fully fit before finalizing the World Cup squad. “Personally, I remain optimistic, but I am not certain,” Tuchel admitted.

For England, Bellingham has earned 46 caps and is considered the heartbeat of the midfield. However, competition for the number 10 spot is fierce with emerging talents like Morgan Rogers, Cole Palmer, Phil Foden, and Morgan Gibbs-White. Former star Michael Owen believes that if in top form, Bellingham remains the top choice for this role. “If everyone is fit, Jude is the best player for that position,” Owen commented.

England will play their opening World Cup match against Croatia on June 17. Given his influence and proven class, Bellingham is highly likely to secure a spot if he recovers in time, but the biggest challenge remains the recovery period for the Real Madrid midfielder.
