American-Vietnamese midfielder 'scores like a machine' after leaving Vietnamese football

After leaving PVF-CAND, American-Vietnamese midfielder Daniel Reid has delivered an outstanding performance with 7 goals and 4 assists for Yoogali SC in Australia.

Quietly left PVF-CAND in August 2024American-Vietnamese midfielder Daniel Reid is showing a completely new side of himself in Australia. Wearing the Yoogali SC jersey, the 27-year-old consistently impresses with his attacking efficiency, becoming a key player since joining the club.

Previously, Danny Reid was registered to play for PVF-CAND in the second half of the 2023/24 National First Division. However, under coach Mauro Jeronimo, he never got any playing time. In early August 2024, both parties agreed to part ways, ending a brief and somewhat regrettable stint for the 1999-born midfielder in Vietnamese football.

Daniel Reid was born on June 23, 1999, in Ho Chi Minh City but was adopted by an American family from a young age and holds U.S. citizenship. Since he retained his Vietnamese birth certificate, he used the name Nguyễn Văn Thắng while playing for PVF-CAND. Reid’s football journey began at Pittsburgh Hotspurs Soccer Club (USA), where he was professionally trained as a midfielder.

After developing in the U.S., Reid had short stints in England with Steyning Town Community Football Club for 2 months and Peacehaven & Telscombe FC for 10 months. In June 2022, he received an offer to join ASD San Luca 1961 (Serie D, Italy) but declined. He then spent a 2-month off-season period with Bognor Regis Town before moving to FK Garliava to compete in Lithuania’s 1 Lyga.

The real turning point came when Reid joined Yoogali SC on March 23, 2025. There, he quickly adapted and became an effective attacking spearhead. So far, the American-Vietnamese midfielder has scored 7 goals and provided 4 assists, demonstrating his “goal-scoring machine” form after leaving Vietnamese football.

His success in Australia partly proves Daniel Reid’s professional ability and shows he has found the right environment to maximize his strengths.
