Not Vietnam? FIFA reveals the 'mysterious director' behind the investigation of 7 Malaysian players

Malaysian media unexpectedly reversed their stance when Mynewshub disclosed that PSSI Chairman Erick Thohir is the person driving the complaint to FIFA regarding the 7 naturalized Malaysian players.

The case involves the eligibility of seven naturalized Malaysian players, which continues to heat up after Mynewshub published shocking information. According to the report, the person believed to be central in pushing the complaint to FIFA is not Vietnam as previously speculated, but rather Erick Thohir, Chairman of the Indonesian Football Association (PSSI).

Previously, regional public opinion had focused on information that AFC Secretary General Windsor Paul John named Vietnam as the official party filing the complaint. However, Mynewshub cited an internal FIFA source from Latin America who stated the situation is more complicated.

This source confirmed: “Mr. Erick Thohir actively requested and assigned someone to submit the complaint, while indirectly seeking and passing related documents to individuals inside FIFA.”

Notably, the source also emphasized: “Vietnam did send a complaint, as the AFC Secretary General mentioned. However, the core documents attached were provided by people hired and arranged by Erick Thohir.”

This revelation caused Malaysian media to question PSSI’s true role in the matter. According to Mynewshub, the complaint not being directly from Vietnam changes the perspective on the entire backstage development.

The news outlet also analyzed that the motive might stem from the frustration of Indonesian football leaders over Malaysia’s recent significant progress. Malaysia is seen as rapidly advancing, creating strong competition in Southeast Asia.

Mynewshub commented: “Moreover, Erick Thohir is dissatisfied with the increasing influence of several Malaysian figures who intervene and heavily invest in the country’s football ecosystem.” The report also suggested that some Indonesian media outlets, allegedly linked to Thohir, frequently publish content criticizing the Malaysian team.

Facing these accusations, Erick Thohir publicly denied being behind the complaint, asserting he did not “orchestrate” or manipulate any process related to Malaysia. However, the new information from Mynewshub adds sensitivity to the story.

Mynewshub concluded: “So far, Erick Thohir and PSSI have not issued an official response to the new allegations. However, his name repeatedly appearing in controversial matters has led many to believe he is becoming a central figure in the complex backstage affairs of Southeast Asian football.”

Up to now, FIFA and AFC have not officially confirmed these allegations. Therefore, the case continues to be closely monitored, especially as national teams prepare for important upcoming tournaments.
