The official homepage of the police-affiliated club has made the latest moves immediately after news emerged that they might be handed a 0-3 loss to Tampines Rovers.
On the morning of February 15th, the newspaper ESPN Asia reported that based on official match data from the AFC, CLB CAHN faces the possibility of being penalized with a 0-3 loss to Tampines Rovers (Singapore) for the first leg of the AFC Champions League Two round of 16, despite having previously secured a 4-0 victory.
The reason is that in this match, the Vietnamese representative fielded two players, midfielder Stefan Mauk and forward China from CLB CAHN, who had each accumulated 3 yellow cards during the group stage. According to Article 59.1.1 of the tournament regulations, any player receiving yellow cards in 3 different matches must serve a one-match suspension in the next game of the competition. This means that the participation of China and Stefan Mauk in the round of 16 match appears to be invalid.
In response to this information, the police-affiliated club has taken its initial steps. On their official page, CLB CAHN posted a poster for the second leg between the two teams along with the statement: "Countdown 3 days, Hanoi Police FC vs Tampines Rovers" including the time and venue of the match.
In reality, even if they are penalized with a loss, CLB CAHN still retains a chance to qualify for the quarterfinals. Specifically, the police club must defeat their opponent by a margin of at least 4-0 to advance to the last 8. This is certainly a challenging task but entirely within the capability of coach Mano Polking and his squad.
Not long ago, in their two encounters with the opponent, CAHN achieved two emphatic wins with scores of 6-1 and 4-0 respectively. This will serve as a foundation for the team’s determination to aim for a resounding victory in the decisive match scheduled for February 18th.
Tampines also fielded a player with 3 yellow cards; why is only CAHN at risk of a 0-3 forfeit? Both CAHN and Tampines used players who had received 3 yellow cards in the AFC Champions League Two round of 16, yet only the Vietnamese representative faces the threat of punishment. Why is that? See more
