Premier League club paying salaries to three managers simultaneously

West Ham is currently facing financial pressure as they are paying wages to three managers at the same time.

Recently, The Athletic reported that West Ham will not have to pay any compensation to coach Nuno Espirito Santo if the club gets relegated at the end of the season.

However, what has not been disclosed is that this clause is reportedly mutual, allowing the 52-year-old coach to terminate his contract with West Ham if the team is relegated. One reason for this clause is that Nuno’s salary would also be cut by 50%, similar to the players, meaning his annual income would drop from £4.5 million to £2.25 million per season.

Meanwhile, West Ham is said to still be paying Julen Lopetegui until his two-year contract expires in June 2026. He reportedly earns £3.5 million annually, totaling about £7 million over the entire contract period.

Lopetegui was appointed head coach of Qatar’s national team last May with a salary around £2 million per year. This means West Ham has to cover the difference of approximately £1.5 million annually, equivalent to £125,000 per month. Clubs usually prefer to continue monthly salary payments to former coaches until the contract ends rather than making a lump-sum compensation payment.

Graham Potter is believed to earn £5 million per year at West Ham. He signed a two-and-a-half-year contract last January, lasting until June 2027. Although he has taken the role of Sweden’s national team head coach with a salary of about £500,000 annually, the English strategist is reportedly still on West Ham’s monthly payroll.

Once again, the London club is legally obligated to cover the salary difference until Potter’s contract ends in 2027.

This means West Ham could be paying salaries to three managers at once, costing the club around £10.5 million annually, which equals about £875,000 per month.
