The Vietnam women's futsal squad has left for Thailand to participate in the 2026 Southeast Asian Women's Futsal Championship aiming to defend their regional championship title.
On the evening of February 15, the Vietnam women's futsal team officially departed for Thailand, beginning their journey to compete in the 2026 Southeast Asian Women's Futsal Championship with the aim of defending their regional title. Head coach Nguyễn Đình Hoàng and his team carry high expectations following recent consecutive successes.
This year's tournament features 7 top teams from Southeast Asia, including strong contenders such as Thailand (ranked 8th globally), Indonesia (18th), Malaysia (21st), and Myanmar (38th). Vietnam, the reigning champion ranked 11th in the world, is considered one of the leading candidates for the title. Additionally, Australia and the Philippines are participating, promising fierce competition.
According to the draw results, Vietnam's women's futsal team is in Group B alongside Myanmar, the Philippines, and Australia. Meanwhile, Group A includes host Thailand, Indonesia, and Malaysia. Given this setup, the team's immediate goal is to advance beyond the group stage into the knockout rounds.
To prepare for the tournament, the team assembled on January 18 in Ho Chi Minh City. The coaching staff called up several new players who recently showed impressive form at the 2026 National Women's Futsal Championship. Coach Nguyễn Đình Hoàng stated these additions aim to strengthen the squad in weaker positions and foster positive internal competition.
According to the 1981-born strategist, the new players must quickly adapt to the team's style, maintain high concentration, and uphold discipline in every training session. He emphasized that the team will approach the tournament game by game, focusing on stability and competitive spirit—key factors that helped Vietnam conquer the regional peak and SEA Games 33.
The 2026 Southeast Asian Women's Futsal Championship will take place from February 24 to March 2, 2026, at Terminal Hall, Terminal 21 Shopping Center, Nakhon Ratchasima Province, Thailand. With thorough preparation and strong determination, the Vietnam women's futsal team aims for the highest achievements, reaffirming their status on the Southeast Asian women's futsal map.
