Manchester United is set for a major midfield revamp this summer, with Casemiro definitely departing and Ugarte’s status unclear, so at least two players will be swapped out. But goalkeeper changes could also be significant. Except for the current starter Senna Lamens, the rest of the goalkeepers may be replaced.

United’s second goalkeeper, Altay Bayindir, has now lost his spot and is widely rumored to be on his way out. In the first six Premier League games this season, the Turkish international started every match but conceded 11 goals, after which Lamens took over and has kept the position ever since.
Third-choice goalkeeper Tom Heaton has barely played and earns £40,000 a week. His role in the squad is essentially as a dedicated training partner, and he may soon transition into a coaching role. However, there are rumors that United might extend the 39-year-old Heaton’s contract for another year, which would avoid the hassle of signing a new keeper this summer.
According to English media, United might recall Czech goalkeeper Radek Vitek next season from his loan at Championship club Bristol City. The 22-year-old prospect has great potential and could serve as Lamens’ backup, depending largely on whether he is willing to accept a reserve role.
Young Vitek is likely to want to continue developing based on his successful season rather than return to Manchester United and sit on the bench. If so, he would seek another loan or even a permanent transfer. His skills should be sufficient to establish himself at teams in the Championship or lower Premier League clubs.
Selling 29-year-old Cameroonian goalkeeper André Onana is the most critical and challenging part of United’s plans, and a permanent transfer is already decided. The club originally paid €50 million for him but will now only recover a fraction of that amount.

Onana’s weekly wage of £120,000 further complicates his transfer. Reports say his former clubs Inter Milan, Juventus, Napoli, and Roma are interested, but these remain just rumors.
In the last Turkish Super Lig match, Trabzonspor lost 2-3 to Fenerbahce, with Onana conceding three goals from three shots on target, leading to a home defeat and fans calling for his dismissal. Finding a new club for Onana this summer and offloading him without covering his wages will be a tough task.
The UK’s Daily Mail reports that since Onana still has two years left on his contract this summer, Manchester United may have to subsidize the transfer to get rid of him. Keeping Onana is no longer an option; the club is 100% determined to send him away.
Last summer, there were rumors that United was interested in signing well-known goalkeepers like Suzuki Ayane, Diogo Costa, Bart Verbruggen, and Emiliano Martinez. Now, with Lamens performing well in his first season, it is likely that only one higher-quality backup goalkeeper will be signed this summer.
Names mentioned in recent months include Melker Ellborg and Robin Roefs from Sunderland in the Premier League, and Mile Svilar from Roma in Serie A, but none of these have developed into concrete moves.

The backup goalkeeper role is very unique; the player needs to be capable of stepping in at any moment if needed but also must accept long periods without playing. Finding an ideal candidate is not easy. Having a setup like United once had with De Gea and Sergio Romero is truly rare and hard to replicate.
