Dominik Szoboszlai is shining brightly, yet the rumors about Real Madrid are creating strong pressure on Liverpool to renew the contract to keep the Hungarian talent.
Liverpool faces advice to promptly secure a contract extension for Dominik Szoboszlaiamid speculation regarding his potential move to Real Madrid.
The Hungarian midfielder continues to prove his leadership by scoring in Liverpool’s 3-0 victory over Brighton in the FA Cup fourth round. This goal brought Szoboszlai’s total to 10 goals across all competitions this season, just two short of his best single-season tally set at RB Leipzig (2019/20).
Joining Anfield in summer 2023 for around £60 million, Szoboszlai now has less than two years left on his contract. Liverpool has started renewal talks, and the 25-year-old is reportedly willing to stay. However, recent comments from Hungary’s coach Marco Rossi in Marca (Spain), stating “Szoboszlai’s dream is to play for Real Madrid”have turned his future into a hot topic.
In response to these rumors, former Republic of Ireland goalkeeper Shay Given has warned Liverpool to act decisively. Speaking on Match of the Day, Given described Szoboszlai as Liverpool’s standout player this season. He noted that while the team sometimes stalled, the Hungarian midfielder showed remarkable progress and became a true star.
Given even compared Szoboszlai to legend Steven Gerrard in terms of his ability to deliver long passes that break down opposing defenses. “He’s an exceptional talent. If I were Liverpool, I’d be concerned hearing about his Real Madrid dream, but at the same time, I’d try to secure him with a new contract,” Given emphasized.
Given that Real Madrid remains a dream destination for many stars, Liverpool understands that retaining a key player performing at Szoboszlai’s level is not only important on the pitch but also a statement of the club’s ambition to compete at the highest level in upcoming seasons.
