Arsenal fans demand immediate dismissal of a certain player after the draw with Wolves

After a disappointing 2-2 draw with the league’s lowest-ranked Wolves, Arsenal fans united in condemning Mikel Arteta’s defensive game plan and worried the championship was slipping out of reach.

Arsenal arrived at Molineux for their away match with the chance to extend their lead atop the Premier League table. A victory over Wolves—who were bottom with only 9 points before the round—would have put the Gunners 7 points clear. Everything initially went perfectly for Arteta’s side.

This early lead allowed the visitors to control the match and play proactively for most of the first half. When Arsenal doubled their lead to 2-0, many believed the three points were secured for the league leaders.

However, the second half unfolded very differently. Wolves mounted a strong comeback and pulled a goal back in the 61st minute with a stunning shot from outside the box by Hugo Bueno. This concession unsettled Arsenal, causing them to lose control of the game. Their proactive style faded, replaced by caution and a deeper defensive line.

The tragedy struck in stoppage time when Tom Edozie’s shot deflected off Riccardo Calafiori, hit the post, and then bounced into Arsenal’s net. The own goal sealed the 2-2 result, causing the visitors to drop two valuable points.

After the match, criticism was heavily directed at coach Mikel Arteta. On social media, many fans expressed their disappointment. “Arteta lacks the spirit to lead Arsenal to a Premier League title.” Another, more severe opinion stated: “Arteta has handed the championship back to Manchester City.”

Another supporter commented: “When Arteta switches to a safe, possession-based style, problems clearly arise. You can’t break limits by playing it safe. He has lost the title.”

Nonetheless, it should be acknowledged that since taking charge in 2019, Arteta has transformed Arsenal significantly. From a team merely competing for a Champions League spot, they have become regular contenders for the Premier League crown. Currently, Arsenal still lead the table by 5 points over Manchester City, despite City having a game in hand.

In recent weeks, Arsenal’s cautious playstyle and reliance on set pieces have raised questions. Although they rank fourth in goals from open play with 29, they still trail Manchester City by 13 goals in this category.

Speaking after the match, Arteta accepted responsibility: “In the second half, we played below any standard. We weren’t good enough to win and paid the price.” He added: “When expectations are so high, you must accept criticism. Because we deserve it.”

The draw against the league’s bottom team didn’t cost Arsenal the top spot, but it sparked doubts about their resolve in the crucial phase. If the title chase slips away, debates about Arteta’s leadership will surely intensify.
