The 2025/26 Premier League season has turned into a managerial churn with 8 coaches already fired, and the count could increase to 9 in the near future.
Oliver Glasner has elevated Crystal Palace. The peak was in the 2024/25 season when he led the Eagles to defeat Liverpool in the final and win the FA Cup. Under Glasner, Crystal Palace also became a tough competitor, a nemesis for many top clubs.
However, due to conflicts with the club’s upper management, Glasner announced he would leave after the 2025/26 season ends. His departure decision triggered a crisis at Crystal Palace, with several star players like Marc Guehi, Jean Philippe Mateta, and Adam Wharton considering exits. Guehi already left last winter to join Manchester City.
Crystal Palace’s form has sharply declined since Glasner confirmed he would depart at the season’s end. The 1-1 draw against Zrinjski Mostar in the Conference League playoff marked a continuation of poor performances. They have won only 1 of their last 15 matches across all competitions.
Crystal Palace fans, who once fully supported Glasner, have started mocking him with chants of “you’ll be sacked tomorrow morning.” After the European cup match, Glasner hinted he might leave before his contract expires at the end of the season.
“We are not at our best moment. I understand that and take responsibility for everything because I am accountable for the whole team,” Glasner stated. “I simply am not good enough to compensate for the players we sold. I’m also not skilled enough to integrate the new signings properly.”.
In a disappointed mood, Glasner said Crystal Palace’s expectations have “completely changed” and added: “It is my responsibility to bring about change… but I have failed to do so.”
Crystal Palace has now dropped to 13th place, 10 points behind the European qualification spots. If things do not improve soon, the club’s management may sack Glasner to start a new era early. With only half a year left on his contract, any compensation Palace must pay would be relatively low.
If this happens, Glasner will be the ninth coach fired in the 2025/26 Premier League campaign. Previously, Sean Dyche, Nuno Espirito Santo, Ange Postecoglou (Nottingham Forest), Thomas Frank (Tottenham), Enzo Maresca (Chelsea), Ruben Amorim (Manchester United), Graham Potter (West Ham), and Vitor Pereira (Wolves) have already been shown the exit this season.
