Coach Pep Guardiola identified the flaws in Man City's campaign for the Premier League title, despite closing the distance to Arsenal to only two points in the race for first place.
Following Arsenal's disappointing draw against bottom-placed Wolves, Man City seized the opportunity to close in on the Premier League standings with a victory over Newcastle in the 27th round.
Although in a favorable position in the title race, Coach Pep Guardiola believes his squad still lacks experience during crucial moments of the championship chase. Speaking to TNT Sports, the Spanish manager admitted: “An extremely important win. Newcastle is a fantastic team, full of energy and with impressive speed in attack. The match was very challenging but the whole team performed unbelievably.
Seventy percent of our players have never been in this situation before and I can't step onto the pitch either. We have to go through it ourselves. Everyone understands that from now until the end of the season, every game will be as intense as this.
Especially since we have five home games left. Today’s atmosphere was the most passionate we've had all season. The fans were incredible. I’m very proud to be the coach of such amazing supporters. Now it’s time to rest for three days and prepare for the match against Leeds.”
Man City's hero in this match, Nico O'Reilly, also shared his views on the remaining journey in the title race. The 2005-born star told TNT Sports: “Winning a title like this is a dream for me. But there are still many games ahead this season. We need to focus on each match one by one. I’m enjoying every moment.
We definitely have the potential to become champions. The whole team always believes we can win every game. We had a week to prepare thoroughly for this match and just need to maintain our form.”
With this crucial victory over Newcastle, Man City is now only two points behind Arsenal at the top. Next weekend, the Etihad Stadium side will visit Leeds. Meanwhile, after the North London derby, Arsenal will turn their attention to another potentially decisive clash with Chelsea next week.
